It’s been just over a month since the Iowa State Fair Photography Salon announced the results. I was excited that three of my photos were chosen for display for the third year in a row. It feels like a real honor, especially since more than 2,600 photos were entered and only about 32% were displayed.
What made it even better was winning two first place awards this year. Out of the photos displayed, only 24% receive ribbons, which is less than 8% of all the entries. Here are my entries:

A fourth photo was submitted in the Planes, Trains & Automobiles class but not accepted for the Salon. It was one of my favorites due to the spontaneous waving response of the conductor of the California Zephyr as it passed through Creston, Iowa.

I always feel humbled and grateful when my photos are chosen for display, much more so when they receive awards, especially knowing how talented the other photographers are who enter this event each year.
If you are interested in submitting a photo into the Photography Salon, information can be found at the Iowa State Fair website in April 2027 for entry rules. Until next year!
